The 2011 Hong Kong District Councils election hit Hong Kong one week ago, and some of the results were surprising like the loss of Lee Cheuk-yan, the General Secretary of the Hong Kong Confederation of Trade Unions. Chau Yick, the former Deputy General Manager of Wen Wei Pao said, “ He lost because he over attacked his enemy and forgot the reality.” ((interesting angle and lead...nice))

Lee Cheuk-yan lost to an unsophisticated young girl Lau Kwai-yung, who is from the Federation of Trade Unions (FTU), by only 138 votes. Chau Yick said, “ The two candidates have different opinions on a recent hot topic, the maids’ residency case, and this is one of the reasons why Lee Cheuk-yan lost to a less experienced enemy. Moreover, Lee Cheuk-yan over attacked the Federation of Trade Unions, which leaded to minus effects. Citizens are sick of this type of attack.”

Talking about the maids’ residency case, Chau Yick outspoke, “ Although I feel sad about the loss of Lee Cheuk-yan, I support the stand of FTU, which say that maids shouldn’t have right to be residents of Hong Kong. The foremost aim of labor union is to protect workers, and it seems that Lee Cheuk-yan forgot this point. Thus, most voters voted for the one who cares the welfare of workers.” ((a different article than any i've read...props for originality and good writing as well))
