TVB is facing the risk of shortage of talents due to the headhunt from City Telecommunication. Lai Man Cheuk, a senior producer on media creation and former TVB staff was invited to the general assembly of Journalism and Communication Department at Hong Kong Shue Yan University yesterday.

Lai said CTI had only lured away 5% TVB staff, and that TVB still had enough producers and scriptwriters to run its business. He said even though TVB was having challenges at this moment, they would eventually overcome. He also said loss minimization was the best way to manage crisis.

Lai Man Cheuk was TVB's former staff. He was one of the producers of Enjoy Yourself Tonight (EYT), the most popular TVB's program in 1970s. "Creating EYT needed a lot of humor and creativity. These two elements were vital and inseparable. It was very hard to create so many funny jokes for the program at that time. But from 7-year creating process, humor and creativity made me realize new ways to tackle risks and solve problems," Lai said.

"Risk is always resulted by loss," Lai said. He said the most effective way to handle a risk is to minimize the loss brought by it. Since risks were inevitable to every job and task, people should not only focus on how they can maximize their gain, instead how they can minimize their loss. He said people had to pay before they gain. Once gain was greater than pay, loss was said to be minimized as well.
