(Why was Lau asked if the properties around the region would be affected? Is Lau in real estate business? You have to tell us what business is Lau in besides being the vice chairman of Bauhinia Foundation Research Centre.)

The Commission on Poverty had warned that every three elderlies who aged above 65, one would fall below the poverty line. To address the aging problem, Lau Ming-wai, the vice chairman of Bauhinia Foundation Research Centre, suggested that the government should discuss on providing public facilities overseas.

Lau said that the government could research on offering more public services in the Zhujiang Delta region, for example, building nursing clinics and hospitals can ease the burden of medical expenditure in Hong Kong. He also expected the aging problem would be getting more serious in the future. Therefore, he was asked if the properties around the region would be affected after the building of such public facilities, he replied that those facilities were not meant for any private developers’ interest and the government should avoid collusion.

The Bauhinia Foundation Research Centre had announced their recent study on population policy on 20th of February. It had examined the city’s future population and manpower needs to 2030, pointed out several social problems like low birth rate, high rate of raising children, outflow of talents and atrophy of manpower.
