Lau Ming-wai, vice chairman of Bauhinia Foundation Research Center, said that he does not oppose solving the long-term shortage of manpower by labor importation.

When asked about the importation of foreign labor of the Government, Lau said that Bauhinia does not have specialized research for manpower shortage in individual industries, but overall not opposed by labor importation to solve the long-term shortage of manpower, but he added that, he does not encourage using it to overcome temporary shortages. Lau pointed out that if the industry does not face a chronic shortage of imported labor, employers can only increase salary to attract talent, and most of the industry will pass the increased cost to consumers.

In addition, when asked about many students in mainland China can not find a job after reflow and whether Hong Kong should attract these professionals, Lau believed that the unemployment of this kind of returned overseas actually consists of many factors, including the failure to adapt different environment between mainland China and overseas . He felt that Hong Kong has an absolute advantage to attract such talent, as the business environment and work type in Hong Kong is similar with overseas, but the main concern is whether there is a need.--115056 2014年3月18日 (二) 23:31 (UTC)
