Lau Ming-wai, son of Joseph Lau Luen-hung, said it was a waste to give up the plan of Hong Kong government leasing Nansha to build an industrial park when speaking in a talk about population and manpower in Shue Yan University on behalf of Bauhinia Foundation Research Center.

Although the government claimed the plan of leasing Nansha was not feasible and hot not been put forward yesterday, Lau Ming-wai said the plan was coherent with a previous study by Bauhinia Foundation Research Centre. He said providing services which had the same quality in Hong Kong in overseas area was a way to solve the problem of lack of land in Hong Kong. “It is quite a waste that the discussion on the plan ceased just because it is senditive.”

However, he said large scale planning would be needed before Hong Kong people live in Nansha since medical service there differenced a lot from Hong Kong according to a previous study by Bauhinia Foundation.

He did not think there would be conflicts of interest to support the Nansha plan while he is in Chinese Estates. “The Nansha park is to provide public services. What developers would build high end property beside public housing estastes?”

He refused to speak about being tipped as his father’s successor to become the chairman of Chinese Estastes.
