“Every citizen should have rights and freedom,” Law Yuk Kai said when sharing his opinions on “Human Rights Protection Mechanism in Hong Kong” with the students of Shue Yan College.

“According to Basic Law, the rights and freedom of the citizens in Hong Kong should be protected,” said Law Yuk Kai, Director of Human Rights Monitor. He continued by pointing out that there is no department or conference in charge with Human Rights in the government. Besides that, there is no mainstream Human Rights policy, such as female rights. As a result, Hong Kong citizens are lacking of knowledge about Human Rights.

Law Yuk Kai is disappointed that the government never decided the financial budget through the view of Human Rights. Hong Kong government is not trying to provide resources on protecting Human Rights. Because of lacking resources, the Human Rights Monitor can only rely on itself in helping the development of Human Rights in Hong Kong.
