Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) program LegCo Review is said to be cancelled in future. The program’s executive producer, James Ma Chim Wai confirmed the rumor, adding that the show may be replaced by a one-on-one talk show.

Media covered that RTHK is going to cancel LegCo Review. Ma admitted that the reports were correct and this decision was raised by the director of broadcasting at the end of October.

“The director would like RTHK to introduce a one-on-one talk show instead of LegCo Review, but we all understand the primetime hours are limited. We have to give and take, but we can never take away the most popular shows Hong Kong Collection and The Headliner, so what we can do is to take away the Legco Review,"said Ma.

Many critics are suspecting the motive of the decision – doubting the government would like to restrain the freedom of speech of RTHK. Ma did not comment it directly, but claiming that RTHK will still be professional.

“We will do what we should do –using our professional knowledge to judge and invite debatable guests, asking good questions to point out problems," said Ma.

Despite the termination of the show, Ma added that LegCo Review does have its value.

“The department always thinks that there are million shows cover the news of Legislative Council, not understanding why RTHK have to do something similar. But I have to emphasis the importance of Legco Review. We are not only reporting the news of Legco, but we add lots of comments and analysts to enrich the show, and raising out the issues audiences would like to know. We have our value,”said Ma.
