A new one-on-one interview programme will launch on 21 December, replacing LegCo Review, one of the longest running public affairs show on RTHK. The executive producer of Public & Current Affairs Section in RTHK, Ma Chim Wai guesses it may be a political motive; however, the new programme is still independent from the government.

Ma attended the General Assembly in Hong Kong Shue Yan University and said the reason of scrapping the LegCo Review was unreasonable.

"Because of duplication with other public affairs programme, such as Headlines, it needed to replace by a new programme format like the one, On the Record on TVB" he said.

He thought LegCo Review is a unique TV programme which is focused on the politic and Legislative Council news. Although there are 24 news programme and live broadcast of Legislative Council meeting, no one would watch the programme non-stop.

He said "Our crew would attend the whole meeting and finalize the main points. It provides the analysis and key messages for audience. However, the upper had decided to scrap it."

The one-on-one interview programme must play on December. He thought it should not be the voice of the government. He said "The producer can invite any guest he wants. The upper will not affect the content of the programme. The host can ask question and judge the guest."

Ma stressed "They still have the right to dictate the programme."
