A Copyright law will be amended to restrict the creation of derivative products. Geordie Toh, a legal advisor for Multinational Corporation, claimed that the restriction cannot be too strict.

Derivative creation in Hong Kong has become a trend. There are lots of “products” circulating on the Internet, especially for the period of the Election of Chief Executive (since you are using quotation marks around products, you have to explain what you mean by that). However, according to the government, in order to protect the author of the original copy, the legislative Council will continue to hold a second reading meeting for this copyright law in 9th May. “This problem obviously shows the contradiction between technology and creative media. The government needs to strike a balance between them, so the law should not be too rigorous,” Geordie said.

Although he said he hasn’t seen any related documents or information before, Geordie thought that the seriousness of the punishment varies on different situations. “When you write your own blogs or articles, you just borrow one of the names from a book or a movie as the writer name, I think it is acceptable and it would be fun to see that in the view of the readers,” He added. Moreover, he said he (do) admire the creativity of some Internet users. They use the movie “Harry Potter and the chamber of Secrets” to satirize the unauthorized dungeon owned by Henry Tang and they put Henry Tang in this Chambers(nice sentence!). Geordie admitted that the picture is quite interesting and he thought this should not be (punished-a punishable offence).

“Even though the legislation has been launched, it is difficult to judge or prove whether the defendant is guilty or not,” When a person has been proven to be a dependent under this copyright law, the plaintiff will change from the original creator to the government. He indicated that it is difficult to seek help from copyright holders. --095105 2012年4月24日 (二) 20:39 (UTC)
