The affair of Hong Kong's former Chief Secretary Henry Tang has aroused the public concern. Both the media and the public had not been satisfied with his performance towards this incident. His act, however, was defended by Esme Lau. The Public Affairs Manager (Media & Community) of Power Assets Holdings Ltd. commented that the response of Henry Tang admitting to an affair was witty. Her comment sparked controversy and was refuted by Professor Leung Tin Wai, who stressed that Henry Tang was not entitled to be the Chief Executive.

When Lau had been asked to rate for Tang’s performance, she was reluctant, on account of the constraint of Tang. What Tang needed to tell, she believed, had already been fully written on the used statement. Even if Tang allowed reporters to question him, he would not give anything new and concrete. In response to it, Esme Lau treated that as a wise move to evade.

Nonetheless, concerning this issue, Professor Leung Tin Wai resolutely emphasized that Henry Tang was not qualified to be the Chief Executive. In view of his answer, Leung criticized the performance of Tang as awful. He thus described Tang as a man without political sense; and he added that he is by no means comparable to Bill Clinton, who had also gone through a predicament due to an affair years ago.
