(You handed in your homework one day late. I expect an explanation from you. Your lead contained a piece of information that was attributed to no particular individual. Who said it? Or was it your observation? You should explain a little bit about what pitching is all about. To an independent production company, the concept of pitching is to sell its creative idea or project to a movie or TV studio, or in this case, an arts funding panel. If the studio finds the project interesting or feasible, it will commission the independent production company to produce a show.)

By SIU, Hnag Nam, 2012-11-06-There are a number of documentaries being broadcasted every week on various television channel. Most of these are produced in-house. Only the Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) runs a pitching programme.

A pitching programme is like a subsidised out-sourcing. Candidates have to submit a proposal to the RTHK to get an allowance for the production. Ada Li, the CNEX Foundation Manager commented that a pitching programme can be resulted in good stories.

“Pitching is not common in Hong Kong, but in China & Taiwan.” Said Li. She added, competition under pitching practice can improve qualities of documentary stories. CNEX receives proposals and choose 10 to execute. Li said that many of the good proposals were come from Mainland China.

Wong Siu Pong, director of Fish Story, commented, Hong Kong people concern on privacy, which made Hong Kong documentary productions more difficult than other regions.
