With Sharp Daily appeared yesterday, Next media rejected the request of additional printing for AM730. However, Alan Lo, the president of AM730,still stayed confident and believed his company under normal operation.

AM730 has long cooperated with Next media since 2005.“Before Next media has published its free newspaper, the request of additional printing for AM730 is always acceptable,” Lo said in an assembly at Hong Kong Shue Yan University.

Shih Wing Ching, the founder of AM730, criticized Jimmy Lai Chee Ying about the contract between AM730 and the printing factory of Next media. According to the contract, they can only print 400 000 copies every day. In fact, Next media always printed more than it promised. Unfortunately, this advantage has no longer prolonged.

For operating a press company, advertisement is the major income. But, AM730 has faced an obstacle suddenly because of the disapproval from Next media.

“There are many advertisements. Sadly, AM730 has already reached the upper limit of the space. It raises many questions why did several times of additional requests were allowed before. It doesn’t mean that the contract has been broken by Next media. It only means something wrong with the morality, ’’ Lo adds.

Lo stressed that if Next media repudiate their contract, they will reserve their rights through a legal action.

“I do believe Next media will keep and run our contract. Otherwise, they need to pay high compensation. ” Lo said. Even though there was an argument on such issue, Lo still insisted the partnership between two companies did not get worse.

In order to solve the restriction of printing, there are still many uncertainties. “We might buy our printing machines or sign the contract with others.’’ Lo adds.

Besides, a cut-throat war has begun after several companies have launched free newspapers. Oriental Press Group even reduced the price of its newspapers include Oriental Daily and the Sun in order to compete with others.

“The price difference between the newspapers is only $1, so it would not bring an obvious influence,” Lo explained.
