Loh Chan: Content, not technology, is king

SEPT17- Loh Chan, the CEO of Digital Broadcasting Corporation (DBC), said at a lecture at Shue Yan University today that rich content is the most important feature of a great media company.

Loh said DBC has seven channels now, and they won’t decide to add other channel in recent. DBC will concentrate on these 7 channels, because content is the king in the media realm. “The channel lineup will be the advantage of DBC and DBC will rely on this advantage to outperform their competitors,” said Loh.

Loh pointed out that retired group is engaging one of seven citizen of Hong Kong, so they are a group big target audience of DBC. Retired group is a potential audience that with a strong spending power, Loh said. Loh also said that right now there is few program target to elderly people, RTHK just has 2 to 3 hours every week. “DBC decides to join up with services providers to provide cheap DBC machine to these retired people.”

Wong Cho Bau was one of the Nation commissars in the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. Many people wonder that if his political identity will affect the editorial autonomy of DBC. Loh Chan emphasized that the biggest goal of DBC is being fair and objective, and if DBC lose fair and objective, DBC will lose their public trust. “Wong Cho Bau also doesn’t want to affect editorial autonomy of DBC, so he won’t join DBC’s board.” Loh Chan said.
