C.E.O. of Digital Broadcasting Corporation Loh Chan reassured anxious Journalism majors, saying major shareholder Bill Wong Cho-Bau backed Loh’s view on having a neutral News channel.

“Wong agreed on running the news channel in an impartial, unbiased and fair way,” Loh added in Hong Kong Shue Yan University, “the DBC news channel will not be like Wen Wei Po, Ta Kung Pao or Apple Daily (in terms of style). We will be reporting facts and allow our audience to judge for themselves.”

The radio station, before its closure on October 2012, did not have a channel specifically for news. Loh revealed DBC used to buy news content from other media outlets for hourly news bulletin but it will be history as DBC have been back on air.

“Content is king. Running a news channel is the right thing to do as it is easy and relatively cheaper to produce (comparing to soap opera),” said Loh (who launched 24hour news in CableTV.

The DBC news channel is currently in beta phase, as Loh admitted that they have very little professional reporters and no assignment editor at the moment.

Loh said, “Some of our reporters might appear to be like amateur, but things will improve as we keep building our squard.”

Bill Wong Cho-Bau, director of DBC and the main financial backer of the radio station, is also a member of the PRC CPPCC National Committee and often described as a Beijing loyalist.
