Over the past forty years, The Community Chest has helped thousands of people in Hong Kong. This year, the Chest has allocated more than $280 million dollars to support 150 member social welfare agencies to help the needy.

Unlike many other charity organizations, the Chest would not use the donation to pay for staff salaries and operation costs. “All administrative cost will be paid by a separate and specific donation from the Hong Kong Jockey Club and returns from investments,” said Louie Tong, the manager of Community Relations of the Chest,in an assembly in Shue Yan University on Tuesday, Mar 13, 2012.

Some may question whether it is appropriate to use donation money for investments, yet Tong claimed that their investments are very prudent. “We have a large reserve and only a small part of it will be used for investments. We have nine bankers in charge of our investments,” said Tong.

She said that the Chest will meet the fund manager, who is chosen by those nine bankers, six times a year to keep an eye on the investments. Tong added that, “We aim for long-term investments. Most of the investments are principal guaranteed funds and bonds because we want to minimize the risk taken.”

Lastly, Tong reassured that every cent of donation will directly go to the needy. She encouraged the public to continue to support the Chest with donation and serve as volunteers.

She said that the Chest will meet the fund manager, who is chosen by those nine bankers, six times a year to keep an eye on the investments. Tong added that, “We aim for long-term investments. Most of the investments are principal guaranteed fund(plural) and bonds because we want to minimize the risk (taken).”

Lastly, Tong reassured that every cent of donation will directly go to the needy. She encouraged the public to continue to support the Chest (by-used with conjugated verb-replace with "with") donation and serve as volunteers.

Good work once again, clear and concise writing. Although brief, the story is complete.
