With the growth of the Internet, some people predict that the printed media would become a dying industry. Jack Forest, editorial director of the luxury magazine Timesquare, expressed confidence that the magazine can keep it sales.

Forest, who started his career as a leisure beat reporter, said that their magazine has stable sales even facing the competition from the internet and the fact that people has been spending less time on printed media now.

“Our magazine reports on luxury and high-ended watches, which is a professional field,” said Forest at a Hong Kong Shue Yan University seminar yesterday. “Those gossip magazines might be affect by the internet as people can know the news through the internet, but people can only know about luxury brand watches through our magazine and our website.”

He believes that Hong Kong’s luxury watches has a great potential market, “we do not have to share the news and content with the China or Taiwan version, I have set up our own team doing all the reporting, editing and photo-taking work.” Forest said that Hong Kong people enjoy reading more pictures than words, “people like the similar things, the only difference is their reading habbit.”
