The digital development editor of South China Morning Post named Stephen Quinn, said “The mobile phone’s function is developing rapidly so that more and more people like to take photos with soneone without permission”, at the forum in HKSYU yesterday.

Recently, some Hong Kong star’s photographs were took in their homes by reporters so that caused the privacy problems. People have paid close attention to and discussed. Stephen Quinn refered that the this behavior completely made the target people had no privacy at all. Because the photograph is everywhere, reporters can take anything they want by kind of ways without permission.

He also pointed out that people can pretend reading digital books or photos by smartphones while taking photo actually, because there are some specific apps covering them so that people will have no doubt about it. “The existing privacy regulations failed to protect personal privacy absolutely, the government should make revision of it.” he said.

Smartphones are widespread, everyone can upload text and image information to the internet through mobile phones. So everyone can be a journalist. Many people were worried about the citizen journalists will displace professional journalists. But Stephen Quinn thought this phenomenon will not hinder the development and work chance of professional journalists. “As a professional journalists, they should stick to professional personal integrity and ethics. And they continue to play a unique role in influencing the society. Citizen journalists had no skills which professional journalists had.”

Mobile Journalism (MOJO) is a new conception. Stephen Quinn predicted this kind of media would be the new direction of the press’s development. He listed that since 2005, BBC have used the smartphone with the microphone to made the news. And the quality of traditional video equipment were no comparable. Moreover, with the smartphone’s lightweight and simple operation, reporters can finish their works more efficiently. He smile and said:”mobile phones will be a part of human body after 25 years.”
