HONG KONG, Dec 18 – Famous local magazine “MR” has no intention of expanding its business to the mainland in recent years despite the increasing Chinese influence in the media industry, because of concerns of cooperation transparency and restrictions on circulation.

Mable Leung, Managing Director of MRRM Publishing LTD, said that entering the Chinese market has been the most difficult challenge to her. She has no confidence to cooperate with the publishers there after paying a visit to China, in an attempt to expand the brand image of the company there.

“China is a tempting market but I surrendered. I have no confidence to cooperate with the mainland publishers. There are many restrictions on publications and market circulations. These problems cannot be easily solved by a woman,” said Leung.

With her experience in launching publications and brand building for more than 25 years, Leung believed that MR can survive under fierce competitions nowadays. Despite the fact that there are many examples of printed media go online, like the “Newsweek”, there are still media going from online to print like the popular fashion site “the Style.com”, according to Leung.

“Definitely we can make profit by launching more publications under the brand, but we will never do something not fitting our style for profit. We have our own style and we do everything out of passion, " said Leung.

In the near future, the magazine will remain a local circulation for the 30000 readers of high spending power, as MR is aiming at quality but not quantity, which differentiates itself with the style of professionalism.
