Mabel Leung says running MR Magazine is about interests but not for making more money

In the recent years, the influence of “instant culture” in the media field is more and more significant. People want like to know what is happening around them as fast as they can. Speed seems like the “must-have-item” in the media field. This in return, has somehow made the competition among the printed media more acute, especially the business of monthly magazines. Yet, Mabel Leung, The Managing Director of MRRM Publishing LTD, said that they would still focus on maintaining the quality rather than the quantity and profits of their magazine.

“I admit that this is a huge challenge for our boutique publishing company since we cannot benefit from the economics of scale in this “instant culture-oriented” period of time. As I could remember, my boss said “no way” when he knew about my idea of publishing MR magazine. Because he thinks there would not be any platforms for us.” Mabel said.

“I didn’t understand what he said before. But now, I know. It’s a bit difficult for monthly magazine to get the right platforms for distortion when compares to weekly other magazines. We know that printed media like us is very different from those online. We still try to make good use of the Internet as a platform for us to supplement the limitations, like timeliness.” Mabel said.

Mabel thinks even though the business environment for running monthly magazines is becoming tougher, she stressed that they would not lower their quality to increase circulation or some other new magazines for profits. “Of course we can run some other more magazines and I am sure there is a market for it. However, as long as we are doing what we like, we are not going to sacrifice our quality in exchange for more profits.” Mabel said. --105125 2012年12月19日 (三) 00:15 (UTC)
