(Keypad is not a monthly magazine as you said. It is a seasonal magazine meaning it comes out four times a year, like Spring edition or Fall edition and these are times when international fashion houses usually start promoting their new line of products. What Wu said was that the magazine publishing business has helped him to widen the social networking much faster than he has hoped for.)

“Networking is very important,” said the director of a multi-media company in the general assembly of the Hong Kong Shue Yan University today.

Dixon Wu, the director of the Flagship Co. Ltd, believes magazine publishing is the tool for him to ‘empower’ his network.

Wu has launched the high-end lifestyle magazine ‘KEYPAD’ in 2010. The magazine is not for sale in public and is only exclusive to a list of readers chosen by the Company. Most of the readers are professionals, like doctor and lawyer, whom received the magazine each season by post.

Wu said the number people that he meet during networking in the past one-and-a-half year were at least doubled.

“ In the process of social networking, don’t just talk to people that you are interested, try to approach people that working different industries,” said Wu,

“For example, when I was young, I am only interested in design, so I approach designers only during networking. But they are actually my competitors!”

He advised students to think about what they can provide to others when networking with people from different industries.
