The mainland china’s variety shows on TV are much better than Hong Kong’s as its audience base is extremely huge, said the crew of the Now Mango.

Addressing the journalism students in Shue Yan University, the Chief Executive Officer of Emperor Entertainment Group Limited, Ng Yu said that the annual Spring Festival Gala of CCTV would use whole year to rehearsal but the local TV channel did not do that.

He said that the 10 seconds advertising time in CCTV after the count-down part ended is HKD$0.5billion. “That is the advertising revenue of income for the full year of our local TV channel,” he added.

Ng had even heard that there are mainland TV channel would like to pay 1.2 million yuan for a Hong Kong singer to sign two songs in their show.

Senior artist, Wong Hei agreed that mainland TV channel would like to use more money to hire an artist for a show. “For senior artist not first-line star, like me, my performance fee is around fifty thousand yuan,” he said “,but they would pay more than that for you to sit the first class and arrive one day before the rehearsal.”

Wong added that for the Spring Festival Gala, the TV channel even did not need to pay for the performance fee because artists would treat the performance as a chance to build their reputation. As there may be certain numbers of businessman including in seven hundred million audiences, if artists presented well in the show, they might receive much chance of offers through the year, Wong said.

“if I need to do a dangerous show, I would like to twist my ankle in front of seven hundred million people instead of seven million,” he said with a smile “, that is the reason why many Hong Kong artists started to work in mainland.”
