Thanks to the technology, information is now everywhere on the Internet and is available on the gadget you carry. “(Therefore), audiences demand more. They are not easy to deal with these days.” said Alan Lo, Chief Editor of AM730, at a conference in Shue Yan University on Tuesday.

“In the past, we work in a top-down way. But when the Internet boosts interactions between the public and the media; we no longer can cover everything up, as people can monitor our act via the Internet.” said AM730 Chief Editor Lo, “Readers who thought we made nasty headlines would complain to the agency.” He believes that media today work in a bottom-up way instead, because “people power in media is growing”.

Cheung Kim-hung, chief editor of Apple Daily, also thinks that the surge of people power means increase of demand; it requires reporters to improve their content quality.

He used apple action news as an example. At first, apple daily only turned news involve violence into action news, then it started adding headline, local news, breaking news and entertainment news to action news, he believes “finance and feature news will be available down the road.”

“Audiences require general, professional and accurate information from the media; we cannot ignore their needs.” said Cheung.
