Media specialist: More free-to-air television licenses improve Hong Kong Television Industry

Asia Television (ATV) has launched legal action against the government’s decision to grant three more free-to-air television licenses yesterday for the reason (of) that its business will be harmed. However, the global media specialist Ho Yuet-fung said in a talk held in Hong Kong Shue Yan University today () “More licenses can make the television industry more competitive, the final (gainer?) is audiences.”

Asia Television (ATV) and Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB) are two existing free-to- air television stations. However, the former is always criticized (of?) its low quality production and therefore TVB seems to monopolize the whole television industry.(run on sentence-revise)

Ho was the former Managing Director of CBS Broadcast International Asia Inc. (so she knows how to produce good television programs-to informal, rephrase). “There are only a few number of television stations in Hong Kong. For producers, their ability (of) creativity will decline as there is no competition. As youngsters nowadays do not watch television anymore, creativity is essential for producing innovative ideas.”

Besides, Ho said that the salary of producer, (script writer and actor-need to be plural) maintain as a low level now because they are all controlled by two television stations.

The three firms to apply are City Telecom (Hong Kong), Fantastic Television, which is owned by i-Cable Communications, and Hong Kong Television Entertainment Company, owned by Pacific Century CyberWorks. (this info should be included earlier on)

Therefore, Ho said that more free-to-air television licenses can increase competition and the salary of the industry. She hoped that those firms can product more creative and attractive programs to draw more youth’s attention and develop Hong Kong television programs overseas.

Be careful with confusing the use of "of" and "for". Good source of information, keep up with the good use of details.
