Money is not the main reward of a reporter

The career of Journalists has always been criticized for the low wage, long working hours and poor prospect. However, every year, there are still hundreds of fresh graduates entering the news industry, “As a reporter, you are always the first one to discover and witness the most shocking scenes,” said Ivan M.W. Yau, the Assistant Manager of the Corporate Communications Department of Sino Group, when attending a seminar held at the Hong Kong Shue Yan University this afternoon.

Despite the fact that working in the news industry is a thankless job, being a reporter is still very attractive to many graduates. Yau, who had been working in the industry for more than ten years, thinks the job brought him the greatest satisfaction, “Think about this, you are writing something that will influence millions of people, you can feel how successful you are, especially when you are reporting an exclusive news,” said Yau.

Yau is no longer a reporter; he is now working at Assistant Manager of the Sino Group. But the old days are unforgettable to him, “The disastrous news are the most impressive in my mind. One of them is the fire occurred catastrophically at the Garley Building in 1996, I can still remember how the sear dead bodies hanged on the windows,” said Yau. [This is a well written fragement, but it ties into the previous segment somewhat akwardly.]

[This article is quite short, but ti succintly answers the question set up by the headline. Money is not the main reward, nor the most important; job satisfaction, and reaching millions of people, is.]
