The freedom of press is one of our core values in Hong Kong, but the mainland press does not possess this freedom. However, the restriction of press in mainland China has been improving, according to David Schlesinger, Chairman of Thomson Reuters China.

“It is better than before, everything if improving,” said David Schlesinger. According to Schlesinger, reporters had to obey officials’ order(plural) during 1990s, no one was brave enough to criticize the Chinese government. “What we can see is, some media and papers criticize the government, that means the freedom of press is improving,” said Schlesinger.

As a journalist, it is (a?-omit) tru(th-adjective not noun form in this case) that journalists are afraid of reporting in China, there was lots of news showing that Hong Kong journalists were caught by the police due to illegal reporting. But Schlesinger said the reform of freedom of press in China is in progress, it will change to a standard which (verb to be) suitable for China. “Everything need() a progress, the reform of the freedom of press also need() a progress,” said Schlesinger.

Furthermore, the news sources in China is a problem, there are always fake source(plural) and false rumors, “ We have to wait and to prove the source, although (it-unclear what if refers to) will be slower than others, we can find out the truth at last,” said Schlesinger.
