“Movie is a tool of making money, but not a kind of art.” said WONG Jing, a Hong Kong famous director.

WONG said the 1.3 billion population in China market is crucial for him when producing movies. “China market is attractive to me and many people wants to gets advantages from the market.” addressed by WONG. He pointed that if you want to get the market share, it is a must for you to follow the rules. Thus, he used Putonghua and mindset of the mainland in writing movie scripts. “Using From Vegas to Macau as an example, I used Putonghua in script writing at the beginning, thus translated it into Cantonese at last to suit the Guangdong people.”

WONG said Hong Kong filming industry is unable compare with the level in the 1980s and is no longer the best in Asia. Lacking of teachers and seniors in guidance is the key of the decline. WONG addressed that Hong Kong people could not catch up the pace unless they are able to give up the superiority they own in mindset. Wong added the industry of film would face crisis in 2030 while the middle class is the killer of mass communication when the city is developing.
