The annual surveys that show national identity conducted by the Chinese University of Hong Kong could make the government to change, the Executive Producer of Public & Current Affairs Section of RTHK, Ma Chim Wai James said yesterday.

Ma said these kind of survey has been taken after Hong Kong’s sovereignty handed to China.”Why it received criticize.now?” he said.

The Global Times had taken the Chinese University of Hong Kong to task over its annual surveys that show a fall in the sense of national identity of those belonging to Generation Y. It said such polls only undermined Hong Kong- mainland ties. It urged the university to stop conducting them.

On the other hand, Ma said former justice secretary, Elsie Leung Oi-sze should not comment on judicial system due to her special identity even she had freedom of speech.

Earlier this month, Leung said local judges lacked an understanding of the relationship between Hong Kong and Beijing, leading to "mistakes" in rulings where the courts had superceded the Central Government's power.

Besides, Ma said according to Article 90 of Basic Law, only the Chief Justice should be Chinese national. “Is the policies of Central government to Hong Kong changing?” he added.

The mainland scholar Cheng Jie, associate professor of Tsinghua University Law School, said last week only Chinese nationals should become judges in the top court.
