Alice Mong, executive director of Asia Society Hong Kong Center (ASHK), said today at Shue Yan University that every Hong Kong citizen has to play a part in heritage conservation.

Making a group of architectural heritage as headquarters of ASHK, Mong believes that heritage preservation should be everyone’s job.

“Government definitely has a role in heritage conservation, but so do we.” She added, “Government has to have budget, and there must be reasons for every decisions they made, it is not for me to judge.”

The Asia Society Hong Kong Center is known to conserve and reuse a group of 4 former British military buildings in Admiralty.

Mong worked in HK before 07 and came back after it, was yearning for the Queen’s pier, built in 1953, Queen Elizabeth II landed there in 1975, demolished in 2007.

“Wow the Queen’s Pier is gone, and I know the people has done something about it. It was my favorite spot in Hong Kong, and I remember it took me 30 minutes the first time I go to that new pier.” Mong lamented.
