Due to the extensive use of the internet, the form of news reporting has changed. Director of China Media Project, Qiang Gang, said that the Chinese media made a great breakthrough when covering the Wen Zhou bullet train collision.

Weibo is a popular social network among China. Before the bullet train collided, one of the Weibo users posted a photo on his page saying that the train was moving very slowly. Right after the train collided, a passenger in the train wrote on her Weibo page asking for rescue. Qiang said that this is a new form of news. People post what they have seen onto the internet immediately, (we) can get information about the accident before the media report it. ((why the shift in point of view?))

Chinese media seldom report the darkside of the government. However, Xinhua News Agency published a news story about a little girl being almost killed because the government wanted to resume the bullet train operation as soon as possible. "I am happy to read this story," said Qiang. "This means that there are still some conscientious reporters working in China."
