Hong Kong’s TV dramas are notorious by plagiarizing the ideas from other countries. Ho Yuet fung, a global media specialist, expressed her sadness on this “declining industry”.

Being a scriptwriter for so many years, Ho criticized recent TV dramas in Hong Kong are far from satisfactpry. “I seldom go through the whole series, maybe just take a look at the finale.” she said sadly.

She pointed out the main reason is lacking in competitions. “Hong Kong’s TV dramas have long been said as “copycat” to other countries, and we long for some stimulation can be brought to the industry.”

As a result, she highly welcomed the introduction of new free-to-air TV broadcast channel, City Telecom. “One more player (City Telecom) is always good for the whole industry, which can push the original ones to improve their quality,” said Ho.

A recent TV drama “When Heaven Burns” successfully drew public attention by its controversial content. Ho gave her appreciation to this TV drama. “The rating may not reflect the exact popularity that it (“When Heaven Burns”) has drawn, but I firmly believe that this kind of drama can bring freshness to the TV industry.” Ho said excitingly.
