Candy Lo, the Deputy Chief Editor of Hong Kong China News Agency, said at Shue Yan University yesterday that a news agency was quite different from other media.

Comparing with other media such as newspaper and radio, Lo said a news agency was an organization which mainly supplied news reports to other news organizations. “News reports from news agencies should be more serious and in-depth. They are quite different from those in newspapers.”

Hong Kong China News Agency (CNA) provides both texts and pictures to Media Chinese and mainly reports news in China. Lo said that CHA’s reports became more comprehensive, which included news in Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and even around the world. CNA also actively covered news about cross-strait relations.

Though CNA is an organization subsidized by the Chinese government, Li said it impartially reported every pieces of news, adding their news reports must be accurate, in-depth and concise because many news organizations subscribed their news article.

According to the classification by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), there are three types of news agency in the world, including international news agency, national news agency and professional news agency. CNA is the only local news agency established in 1956 in Hong Kong.
