With the broadening of media sources nowadays, the competition in journalism has become fierce. Chairman of Thomson Reuters China, David Schlesinger said it is important for journalists nowadays to maintain their professionalism and to work like a team.

“News writing is like a team sport,” he said. He claimed that journalists need to create that process in news editing. “You may start with one writing the news story, but then a team is needed to edit the story,” he said.

He mentioned that good news stories required a team effort. He added, “Besides a good team effort, find the drama in the story.” He said that there are dramas in every profession. Therefore, as a journalist, professionalism is needed in finding a dramatic point in news stories.

He stressed that after all, the audience is important also. He said, “Remember the audience, think about what they want.” He mentioned that with all those factors, journalists can maintain their professionalism and continue on even with fierce competition.
