A.I. Artificial Intelligence is a heated topic in the world. People are enthusiastic about A.I. development but also worried about the future of A.I.

Dr. Bosco Yung, Machine Learning Engineer, said A.I. could not replace human beings at this stage in the General Assembly of Hong Kong Shue Yan University.

Bosco Yung has worked as a researcher in the Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Centre in Poland for two years and developed interest in big data and machine learning because of the need to analyse huge amount of data. He is now a Machine Learning Engineer in the German company Jaumo which produces social networking and dating apps.

"Humans have emotions and ideologies that the A.I. does not have which makes them different," Yung said.

The judgment model of A.I. cannot compare to that of human beings. Yung said A.I. is very efficient in transferring information. They can even create a news article in ten seconds. In the age of big data, A.I. is very useful in mass communication. But the editorial work should be carried out by the human, not A.I.

“There are various ways of news reporting and writing in rigid format does not appeal to all readers,” Yung said.

Yung thought the news reports by human are more meaningful and cannot be replaced by A.I. Unlike the human, A.I. also may not have the ability to judge whether the news is correct or the tone is appropriate. This is a unique ability of human beings.

Also, A.I. is not good enough to distinguish facts and fake news so it is impossible to let A.I. make the important decision.

"The role of A.I. is to assist human and make the prediction, "Yung said.

Humans are the "gatekeeper" who make sure the information is correct and appropriate. Therefore, human should improve themselves in order to have the ability to do a fact check and notice the mistakes.

"People don't need to worry about the negative influences of A.I. because this technology is still under the control of human," Yung said.

A.I. could bring a lot of advantages to us and improve our living standard. However, Yung admitted A.I. still has a large room for improvement. If people keep studying and training A.I., this technology would be more mature in the future.
