Nothing comes from nothing

17th November 2009

The former Equestrian Company Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Lam Woon-Kwong (GBS, JP), addressed the students of Hong Kong Shue Yan University at its weekly seminar, which was held by the Department of Journalism and Communication. He used video clips and historical facts as examples to illustrate the importance of responsibility in one’s life.

“Humans are different from animals. Unlike animals, we have intelligence and consciousness. We have the right to choose,” Mr. Lam said. Choice making is inevitable in one’s life. Yet humans have wisdom, and should be able to know the consequences of each choice being made. Therefore, humans should bear own responsibility.

“You should know that your act and your words at this moment would bring certain impacts to your life in the future.” Mr. Lam reminded his audience that on each issue they came across, they could actually choose whether to take steps or not. However, once the choice has been made, you should be responsible for your act. Everyone may have different moral outlook, and he will not persuade anyone to have the same view as he does. He just wants his audience to know that “responsibility “comes from “the right to choose”.

“Nothing comes from nothing,” said Mr. Lam. He believes that coincidence is very rare. Thing goes according to a particular reason, but not by chance. “Simply one choice or one thought can make your life a total reverse. You have to be responsible for your own option, and make your choices cautiously. Some could be irremediable and uncontrollable.” Lam said with emphasis.
