Online Movies, A Win-Win for Producers and Audience

8th November, 2011

Due to the rapid development of Internet and technologies, people are used to enjoy movies at home. We all know that everything has its own advantages and disadvantages. Experienced practitioner of entertainment industry believed that internet home entertainment does bring consumers benefits, yet at the same time threatens the creative work of movie producers.

We all know how powerful the Internet is. Once a thread is posted online, it is forwarded for countless times in an instant. Li Kuo Hsing, chairman of the Mei Ah Entertainment Group Limited, stated that the movie industry is greatly influenced by the propagating ability of Internet.

"Movies and films can reach larger groups of audience, and this implies that the market is much larger. In fact, we businessmen and movies producers, do benefit from it," said Li. He continued, "More and more people can witness the work and effort of producers, which is definitely a good thing."

As the market expands and the number of audience increases, does this influence the advertising cost? Li reviewed that the use of Internet, not only helped them in reaching larger audience group, but also helped in reducing advertising cost.

"In the past, all we can use are print ads or TV ads. With the implementation of online advertising, we lowered the cost and shortened the duration of advertising campaign before a movie is shown," said Li.

According to Li, downloading movies from the internet become a more popular way among the consumers to obtain what they want. This not only helped in saving packaging materials and reducing production cost, but also contributed to environmental conservation.

"Back to the last century, we only distribute our movies in forms of optical discs and magnetic tapes. When Internet acts as a distribution channel, we saved packaging materials and costs. Not only does this contribute to environmental conservation, it lowers the production costs and we can sell our products to customers at a lower price. This is a win-win situation for both businessmen and consumers," said Li.

Everything has two sides. According to Li, the rapid development of Internet and the increase in number of Netizens around the world bring threats to the industry. Statistics have shown that cases of unlawful movie download have been increasing in the past few years, invading movie’s copyright.

"We promote authentic and lawful downloading. Illegitimate downloading not only violates movies' copyright, but also neglected the values of a movie and the effort of its producers,” said Li.

He continued, “movie producers will lose the motivation to create outstanding and award-winning movies when their audience no longer support them through legitimate means. We hope the publics could respect movies’ copyright and support legal download from recognized channels.”

Comments from Ms Isabelle Umugwaneza:

Jennifer,
I saw that you corrected your last article, which is great! I can see you took more time to self-edit this time, as there are less spelling errors, or missing words. Again, good explanations, and focus. For your title, you simply say, Online Movies, A Win-Win for Investors/or Producers and the Audience.
