SEP 24 – While the Occupy Central campaign is going to launch the second discussion session (D-day 2) next week to discuss with different organizations, one of the organizers of an opposition group, Silent Majority, said occupying Central will only create chaos in Hong Kong.

Chow Yung, at the general assembly at Shue Yan University this afternoon, said occupying Central is going to paralyze the traffic system of Hong Kong, which will create chaos. He has given some examples, “there can be up to 20,000 participants in the second wave of Occupy Central, and the traffic in Central can certainly be paralyzed by those people. At that time, fire engines and ambulances will be unable to reach to the needy, and trucks will be unable to deliver supplies to any supermarkets or convenience stores.”

Chow said he is unwilling and afraid of seeing such chaos happening in Hong Kong, he had the feeling that something must have to be done, and thus he set up Silent Majority to counteract the Occupy Central campaign. Chow thinks the organizers of Occupy Central have neglected the severe consequences of their actions, and the job of Silent Majority is to reveal the reality to the public, “Silent Majority is a peace movement. There are people who are afraid of the possible occurrence of chaos; we want to gather their voices and tell Mr. Tai Yiu-ting that their campaign is not appropriate,” he explained.

“Actually, we want a win-win situation,” Chow added. He thinks that if Tai Yiu-ting can successfully occupy Central in the first wave, and if Silent Majority can successfully discourage people participating in the second wave of the movement so that no chaos will occur, both campaigns’ missions are accomplished. “That will be the most satisfied situation,” said Chow.
