To many people, Public Relation (PR)’s job nature and duties are not very clear. There is always a misconception that PR is only a good-looking person who would stand out to talk on behalf of a company when there is an incident. However, PR means so much more to a company and what they do can affect a company in lots of different ways. And Esme Lau, Public affairs Manager of Power Assets Holding Ltd has mentioned two of its most important duties when she was giving a speech at Hong Kong Shue Yan University yesterday.

Esme Lau, a very experienced PR in the industry, simply described PR the facial features of a company “PR should be the eyes, ears, mouth and nose of a company that it would use different ways to sense and estimate what the public thinks about the company,” explained Lau. “And with opinions of the public, a company will be able to draft its planning and working strategies,” added Lau.

Furthermore, PR is responsible for helping a company to raise its reputation and building a favorable image, which would help to gain supports from the public and its stakeholders. “PR can help to increase a company’s attractiveness to the media and public,” concluded Lau.
