Pang: Using Proverb Improve Communication

Mr. Pang Chi Ming, a columnist of Apple Daily and AM730, claritied the value of proverbs in news reporting nowadays invited to a seminar at Hong Kong Shue Yan University yesterday.

Pang stated the media industry in Hong Kong should encourage using words basen on its social change, but not traditional format only. Because standardized proverbs can improve communication between readers and writers. But, Pang emphasized proper using in proverbs could only be effective without degrading the quality of passage.

Except media, Pang thought that it also is the responsiblity of teachers to shoulder the popularity of proverbs which is indeed a kind of languages with its unique historical provenance and value. Therefore, educator especially supposed first to learn more about the origins of proverbs in Pang' s words.

Pang had given some examples of Chinese words not using correctly in mass media but understanded among audiences. He deemed that journalist needed to avoid slang using wrongly when literary of the public would easily be deteriorated. In case, he recommented those potential journalist would get well-prepared of different culture and history of words as necessary.
