Pay More, Produces Better Shows

Reporter/ Mandy Lam--095032 2012年4月10日 (二) 23:23 (UTC)

“Mainland China’s variety shows are better than Hong Kong these years. I feel (sigh?) about this,” said Ng Yu, a veteran media director yesterday.

Ng Yu said most of mainland television programs are willing to spend money, time and resources on variety shows at Hong Kong Shue Yan University. Take the CCTV New Year’s Gala as example, they take(s) one year to arrange the show in order to provide high quality program for the audience.

“The mainland television stations are willing to tailor(-make-omit) programs for artists,” Wilson Chin Kwok-wai added, an independent senior variety show producer. “By contrast, Hong Kong’s is only the flow process.” Many artists need to be multi-tasking, like singing and filming dramas. They usually spent few time for rehearsal in each show, so people might see that hosts and artists lacked rapport on live (television).

Besides, Chin said that the mainland television stations take teenagers as their target audience. For the sake of enhancing exposure and attraction, they also hired specific staff for search latest information and hot issues through the Internet for shows to reach their target audience. Hence, they always invited famous artists to show up on their variety programs.

“Hong Kong’s variety shows rarely can invite such big cast to show up,” Chin admitted.

Also, Ng criticized that Hong Kong television stations lack competition in order( to lead local television industry stagnated.?-choose main verb, and delete the other)
