Instead of a simple and dull work, political public relations is full of challenges in order to build up political figures’ image positively.

“If you really want to be PR, you must think twice because it is a hard job to serve the public.” Kwan Cheng Lai Man, the communication director of the AsiaNet Communications Ltd, pointed out in an assembly of Shue Yan University.

As a former press coordinator of the Chief Secretary for Administration, Kwan reminded jounalist students political PR is not only work as a press coordinator, but also a promotional manager, a lobbying manager, a babysitter and even a make-up artist. And there is another name of public relations is “Spin doctors”, which is well-rounded to every aspect.

Kwan mentioned a lot of newspapers nowadays tend to criticize the government policies; it will create big noise in the public. As public relations need to handle different situations, high EQ and good communication skill is a must establishing good relationship with the media. Therefore, public relations should provide all useful information to the press getting their jobs done.

“We need to think from the citizens, not from the top;” Kwan noted, “the most crucial thing is sincere and sells the government policy to the press and public hearty. If we have heart to pay with this job, appreciate and satisfy to serve people, we can create good relationship between media and the public.”
