After the Chief Executive election, many people worried that the press freedom in Hong Kong will be restrained under the rule of Leung Chun-ying. David Schlesinger, Chairman of Thomson Reuters China, said that the freedom of press in the Mainland has been improving.

David Schlesinger said that although the mainland press freedom is improving but there are still many restrictions. He said the Chinese news in the nineties was completely controlled by the Government who will strictly monitor and regulate the media. "The freedom of the press in the Mainland is still constrained and many sensitive topics were banned. However, but some mainland media will still be able to criticize the government and people can express their views on the microblogging. It is making progress," explained David.
