Communications Authority Broadcast Codes of

Practice Committee Chairperson Raymond R. Wong says journalists have to work hard to be treated better and paid more. He said it was industry standard that salaries were low in the media, despite minimum wage being introduced.

Wong said low salary of press is a convention, people who work

for media should not complain about this. Also, no one can

force someone to work for media if he or she doesn’t want to.

Thus, press should accept this fact and work hard for their

careers. Wong expressed that the working environment of press

is not stable, so press whom just start working for media have

to bear hardship without complaining. After these hardships,

press can get a better salary and the chance of promotion.

To give advice to undergraduates major in Journalism in Hong Kong

Shue Yan University, Wong said they should have a mindset to be

ordered by experienced colleagues when they start to be a press.

“Everything need to be gone through by yourself, you have to

gain experiences from these to become succeed” Wong said.
