PR takes a vital role in different corporations nowadays. A PR practitioner should equip with different skills and abilities in order to cope with the ever-changing society. Esme Lau, the Public Affairs Manager of Power Assets Holdings Ltd., stated that a PR would never stop working as they have to be alert and get prepared anytime. They have to stick to the trend and current affairs tightly so as to figure out the best plans in different circumstances.


Esme Lau attended the general assembly of Faculty of Mass Communication and Journalism at Hong Kong Shue Yan University today and shared her experience and viewpoints about the role of Public Relations in Corporations. Lau has thrown herself into PR for almost twenty years. She had worked in TVB, KCR and Housing Authority. With significant experience in this field, Lau said that a PR should always be ready to confront any crisis or urgency. That is why she emphasized that PR should be fast-paced and smart. As the environment nowadays is constantly varying, therefore PR should be good in observation and always keep their eyes on the current and upcoming trends. Lau stated that PR would always make use of social media, free newspapers, Applications(Apps) in smart phones to find an effective way to promote for their corporations. Promotion, image building and consolidating are also a crucial responsibility that PR should do for their companies.


For the purpose to be a better PR in the future, Lau advised that students should start build up a foundation for the future career. Having a good comprehension in both Chinese and English is a must. Lau told the students to raise their demand on languages, especially in writing. As having an excellent writing ability does benefit a lot in the career, Lau recommended that all the students should write regularly and evaluate regularly so as to be prepared for the future.
