Professional magazines have a stable market

(We usually don't call magazines that specialize in high-end fashion or other luxury goods as professional magazines. They are called specialized magazines and their readers are often hobbyists or aficionados. Professional magazines cater to professionals, like medical doctors, lawyers or certified accountants, with the New England Medical Journal as one good example. Also, we all know that there are other watch magazines in the market and since Hong Kong is a free market, how come the competition has not eaten into Timesquare's publication? )

A senior journalist said yesterday that professional magazines were not easy to be replace, thus the sales of them was stable, compared with other printed media.


“Once the reader brought it (the professional magazine), they will buy it in the long run,” said Mr. Jack Forest, the Editorial Director of Time Square, in the general assembly at Shue Yan University.


He said professional magazines had a high credibility and tight connection with their readers, which was the reason why their readers would not just search information thought the internet by themselves.


“Unlike newspapers and some entertainment magazines, professional magazines were not easy to be replace as the readers can only get the professional information from the professional magazine,” added Forest.


The sales of paid newspaper, like Apple Daily and Oriental Daily dropped seriously after the appearance of free newspaper. Forest said the sales of professional magazines was stable with a group of specialized readers, although the market of them was not large.


Time Square is the first professional watch magazine in the Greater China region, which was established in 1995.
