Nowadays, we can see the use of proverbs in many printed media, no matter it is the headline of newspaper or front cover of magazine. The use of proverbs is critics by many people. Someone even blame that the use of these words is downgrading the language level of readers.
‘Proverbs should be respected and protected, but not despising,’said Pang Chi Ming, columnist of Apply Daily and AM730. He claimed that the major use of language is to communicate, and sometimes, proverbs can even do better than written language in expressing idea and delivering message.‘The use of proverbs in printed media is to help readers have a better understanding of the article, on the other hand, it can also attract more readers.’Pang Chi Ming explained.
Pang Chi Ming also said that as time goes by, the word we thought it is a proverb yesterday doesn’t mean that it is a proverb today. So, the meaning of what is proverb is depends on what people thing and where they use.
Although Pang Chi Ming didn’t refuse the use of proverbs, he did emphasize the use of correct word since people are easily affected by mass media.
