Nov. 20 –In a controversial change at RTHK, a new program with one-on-one interviews will launch on 21 December, but “Legco Review” will still be retained, said an executive producer.

Recently, the forthcoming interview show of RTHK was criticized as a mouthpiece program for the government. It will replace “Legco Review”, a famous program which reports the affairs about the Legislative Council and political issues.

James Ma, executive producer of the public and current affairs section of RTHK, contends that RTHK will still retain “Legco Review” but the new interview show is a must to launch, Tuesday at Shue Yan University.

Ma said that his department would be in charge on the production work of the new program. Since most of the interviewees are senior government officials, some critics worry that it would be political propaganda. But, Ma believes that the new program is not driven by any political motives and would not be the mouthpiece of the Hong Kong government.

“People who would be interview are not a big deal, what we decide to ask is more important,” he said.

Mowever, Ma added that “Legco Review” is the only TV programs in Hong Kong that analyses Legislative Council affairs in an in-depth way. He considers that many citizens have interested in political issue and this program can give them more information about the situation of Legislative Council so there is no reason to ban the program at this moment.
