Three companies have applied for free television license since 2010,

however the government does not issue any licenses in these years.

Raymond Wong, chairperson of Communications Authority Broadcast Codes

of Practice Committee said that the procrastination of launching license

is not because of political factor.

Raymond Wong said that the delay of launching free-television-license does

not because of the political pressure. “Many sides opposes central government

and make Hong Kong unrest. It needs not to do those things by television

stations, ” said Wong when he attended to a general assembly in Hong Kong Shue

Yan University yesterday.

As a chairperson of Broadcast Codes of Practice Committee, Wong said that the

committee recommended those three companies to Chief Executive, as well as the

ex Chief Executive by whilom committee. He did not say the reason of late

launching license and thought that he completed with his duty.

Wong was former assistant general manager of TVB, he said that he realizes

the reason of ATV and TVB oppose to issue new license. He said that although

TVB has 33% profit, it is afraid that more television stations to make it earn

lesser.

Wong thought that more TV stations do not mean that the market would be bigger.

He also disagreed that provide free television services is a kind of business

which must not lose money.

Wong said that if government thinks the citizen should have more choice,

it should launch the licenses. In the customers’ perspective, he thought that

not all audiences can afford to subscribe pay television.
