(Your article well written but it contained too much quotes from the speaker that were not necessary. Lo has stressed in her speech that reading was the best way to widen one's view and objective and you should put that in your lead.)

(30 October, 2012) Candy Lo, the deputy chief editor from Hong Kong China News Agency, pointed out that a good reporter should be knowledgeable about different subjects, speaking at a talk at a university yesterday.

Lo specialized in reporting culture and education news when she joined the agency. At first she was quite satisfied with her job because she could finish her reporting as required; but, she took a turn for her attitude after finishing the reporting of China's two-meeting in 2004.

The two-meeting refers to the meetings of the National People's Congress and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, which are held close every year in China.

"It was my first time to report the two-meeting in 2004," said Lo, who was the only reporter sent at that time to cover the whole event.

"I read about the meetings on ordinary days but I didn't know too much about it," she said. "The only way for me to complete the tasks was to search information by myself."

After writing about 30 articles every day during the meeting period, Lo learnt a lesson that she had to broaden her horizons in different aspects.

"It's not true that you have to pay attention to politics only if you specialize in political news reporting," said Lo, adding that reading books of different subjects is beneficial to write good news in different categories.

Indeed, Lo has covered news in other areas such as medical news and business news. She also did reports on the two-meeting for 5 times afterwards. She added that reporters, working in a news agency, had to cover news in wide variety of categories unlike the traditional media.

"It is essential to equip with general knowledge, not just about Hong Kong, but also China and even all over the world," Lo commented on being a reporter. "To stand high and to look around is the key to write quality stories."
