Regression makes advance

The Executive Vice President, Asia Television Limited (ATV) Dewy Ip believed that reform ATV is an ultimate challenge. But he thought it can discipline himself.

Ip has developed different TV channels in overseas, likes TVB Jade cable TV channel in the U.S. in 1984 and the Indonesia’s national commercial television station in 1993. He pointed out the resources was serious short at that time, everything started from zero. “It is a chance for me and I learnt a lot in processes, likes management, TV production and how to find sponsors. You learn noting and lose fun if there are unlimited resources.” Ip said.

He descried the job of changing ATV as an ultimate challenge. As ATV lack of resource and is disadvantaged in long-time. But he thought the development space is bigger, so he decided to work in the ATV. “Working in the ATV, I don’t start from zero, is minus.” He said, “I don’t agree it is an unwise decision. Seemingly my career is regressive, but I believe that regression can make me advance as it can discipline me.”

To reform ATV, Ip thought the most important is innovation and cause populace response. “The production team must think out of the box and breakthrough. The program is success and attractive if it causes audience discussion, even criticizes. Now, the ATV is broadcasting a program which introduces the Japanese adult film industry, it makes a hot topic on society.”

Olympics is coming and ATV has invited the Hong Kong first Olympics gold medal winner, Li Lai Shan as one of the hosts. Besides, ATV has a secret weapon and Ip said, “Look forward to it!”
