The correspondent of CNA’s (Central News Agency) Hong Kong Bureau, Stanley Cheung, said that political stand of Taiwan government affects reporting.
Since the CNA is operated by Taiwan ruling party, there are limitations in reporting some political topics. “Because of the political reason, CNA is forced to hold a corresponding political stance with the ruling party toward the China’s news.” said by Cheung. He stated that there is a great different in attitude towards two parties in the policy of reporting China’s news.
The presidential election in Taiwan is coming soon, nearly all opinion polls showed that Kuomintang (KMT) presidential candidate Ma Ying-jeou enjoys a fairly substantial lead over his Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) rival. As a correspondent with 25 years experience in Taiwan’s News Agency, Cheung admitted that if KMT wins in the coming presidential election, CAN will enjoy more freedom in reporting.
